Great ice skating, great variety of places for foodies, good for casual strolls through the city, many events occur downtown

Awesome in the winter to ice skate, and local events are usually held here (heads up to closing roads). Wouldn't trust the water though.

The reflecting pool in the middle of the square symbolizes where the Erie Canal once ran. In the winter it's turned into an ice skating rink!

If you're bringing your own skates, don't bother paying. Just walk in the rental entrance and go.

When it's hot out you should take a dip in the fountain. It is totally allowed and there is definitely not broken glass all over. None at all.
