«Eine Stadt, die niemals schläft» – So hat einst mal der berühmte Frank Sinatra über New York gesungen.
Die größte Stadt der Vereinigten Staaten schläft auch zu unseren Tagen nicht. In einem 24/7-Modus hat die Stadt einiges zu bieten, um sogar die erwartungsvollsten Touristen zu überraschen.Den Worten von demselben Sinatra zufolge lohnt es sich, zu einem kleinen Teil von New York zumindest für ein Paar Tage zu werden. Die Stadt ist relativ jung – sie ist gerade mal 400 Jahre alt – und die wichtigsten Sehenswürdigkeiten sind hier die Wolkenkratzer und die weltweit bekannten Straßen. Die beliebten Orte von New York sind das von Hochhäusern bebaute Finanzviertel, wo sich die Büros der größten Konzerne befinden, die wiedererkennbartsten Straßen der Stadt Broadway und die Madisson Avenue, die Dreifaltigkeitskirche, die Brooklin-Brücke und der 319 Meter hohe Wolkenkratzer Chrysler Building. Um sich nicht zu verirren und die Zeit umsonst zu verlieren, nutzen Sie einen Stadtführer! Sich von den Wanderungen zu erholen lohnt es sich im Zentralen Park, der gleichzeitig eine weitere Visitenkarte der Stadt darstellt.Für die Fortbewegung in der Stadt kann man auf vielfältige Verkehrsmittel zurückgreifen: U-Bahn, Busverbindungen, sowie traditionelle gelben Taxis, die zu einer der Sehenswürdigkeiten geworden sind. Auf der Fähre zwischen Manhattan und dem Staten Island ist die Fahrt unentgeltlich. Die U-Bahnkarte von New York umfasst 472 Stationen, und die U-Bahn selbst ist eine der längsten in der Welt, wenn man die Gesamtlänge der Strecken zählt.
